Dermaplaning 101

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

Dermaplaning..

Something I get asked about daily. Seriously!

It's proved such a popular treatment since landing in the UK from LA.

The ultimate skin treat, something that is ideal for party prep, occasion prep or skin rejuvination in general. And now, with the help of added ingredients and products like Oilaplane, LED and Masks, Dermaplaning is available and suitable for almost anyone.

So what is it? And what does it involve?

I've written a few of my most asked FAQ's down below for you to have a read through, and decide if the treatment is for you, or to put to bed some rumours you've heard from Doris down at the hairdressers about how 'scary' it is.

1. What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual controlled exfoliation of the skin using a sterile, surgical scalpel. It removes dead skin cells, product build up, and vellus hair ‘peach fuzz’. Dead skin cells and peach fuzz can trap dirt and oil, leaving skin feeling congested and pores blocked, as well as leaving a dull appearance to the skin.

Coming all the way from LA where it was invented, Dermaplaning is a huge celebrity skin favourite. Voted one of the top 3 Skin treatments in America, Dermaplaning gives some seriously gorgeous results.

After just ONE treatment you can expect glowing, baby soft skin. As well as an improvement in skin texture, as well as increased skin cell turnover. This is a gorgeous treatment to do every 4-6 weeks to keep you glowing and fresh, but also a perfect ‘skin treat’ before a special occasion, party prep, or wedding prep!

How often should I have the treatment?

Between 4-6 weeks is ideal, however its the perfect treatment for a skin treat- to prep for the application of makeup, prepping skin ahead of occasions such as weddings!

I have dry and sensitive skin, can I still have this done?

Of course! At The Blossom Rooms we have Oilaplane™ on offer for all clients who need this during Dermaplaning at NO extra cost.

This beautiful balm is used to prep skin, to allow the blade to glide smoothly over the skin like in all derma planing treatments, but the difference is that it is infused with natural oils to plump, heal, and soothe the skin. Making this treatment available to clients who suffer from dry sensitive skin.

Does it hurt?

No! It’s a gentle shaving feeling during the dermaplaning part of the treatment. All derma planing sessions involve complete skin prep and rejuvination, no matter what the package you opt for! Your skin will leave us the freshest its been in a while, with new skin cells exposed- so we need to feed those and look after them! We don’t believe in quick 15 minute treatments where you leave feeling dry and skin needing nourishment.

Will my facial hair grow back thicker/darker?

No. Never! Vellus hair has a completely different structure. Clients who keep up with dermaplaning often notice their hair growing back much slower, feeling finer than before.
